Description:File Management to the next level

JFileCatalog is a Java application used to display and edit information about files. Not only does this information include the standard file information, but also information that is defined by you, and is retained in a resource file or database.

The main view of JFileCatalog is similar to the Window File Explorer tree view, but has additional features:

  1. – View details of more than one branch at a time

  2. – Edit some details from this view

  3. – View and edit your own notes about files

  4. – One button to a list view of the selected files and directories

  5. – Printable directory and file lists

  6. – A compare directories and/or files

JFileCatalog is a good way to keep track of files. A complex directory structure or file naming scheme cannot provide the flexibility JFileCatalog can. Because JFileCatalog can use a database to hold additional information about each file, files can be assigned more than one category, subject, or any other attribute. Files can be assigned “sticky notes” that can be viewed in either the tree view or list view.

The List View can be filtered and/or sorted. The list can be one directory, multiple directories, or a combination of directories and selected files. Anything that can be selected on the Tree View can be selected for inclusion in the List View. This list can also be printed in a report format.

Usage:

File Management, a standalone program.

How to save time using JFileCatalog:

1) Use JFileCatalog to edit file properties. With JFileCatalog you can edi tseveral properties in a spreadsheet format, instead of the Windows, one file at a time, way.

2) Need to print file structures or file lists? Use JFileCatalog's own print feature to print standard or customized reports based on your selections. No more cut and paste to print file listings.

3) Use JFileCatalog to compare notes on files.

Example 1: The following uses JFileCatalog to see if Steve and Dave agree on deleting files.

Example 2: If you keep track of bids with monthly spreadsheet files, you could add a column in JFileCatalog that shows the starting bib number for each file. no more opening each file.

4) Use JFileCatalog to compare directories on any columns that are comparable.

5) Use JFileCatalog to sort or filter on any file attribute, such as author, or a custom attribute, not just date, type or file size.
